Light:
Too little light is the most common challenge for this plant indoors, so be sure to give it a bright spot with lots of natural or artificial light (or a mix of both).
Water:
Every 10 to 15 days
Quick Tips:
Like many house plants, fiddle leaf fig would rather be too dry than too wet, so if you’re unsure about whether it needs water, wait a day or two before checking again.
*Every three months, rinse your plant’s leaves with room temperature water. This helps remove any dust that’s accumulated, ensuring they’re able to absorb and photosynthesis sunlight more efficiently.
Ficus lyrata
Fiddle Leaf Fig trees originate in the tropical rainforest of West Africa.
They are in the Moraceae horticultural family and are closely related to other ficus trees. Ficus pause their growth through the darker and cooler periods of the year (November to February). So, their largest period of growth occurs in the early spring (March to May).
As tropical plants, they appreciate a humid environment. If conditions are too dry, their leaves will fall off.
This means you’ll always need to avoid placement directly in front of an air vent.
Fiddle Leaf Fig Trees are particularly sensitive to environmental changes. As is the case with many ficus varieties, it may drop some of its leaves in response to shock—such as being moved from one set of growing conditions to another. They will likely take a little time to adjust to their new home. Be sure to follow the care instructions, and don’t panic if yours loses a few leaves.
